The 95th Academy Awards was held yesterday, and a part of the event was dedicated to deceased actors at the Oscars in memoriam tribute. However, Robert Blake’s Oscar memoriam was noticeably absent. Get the details below.
Robert Blake Absent In Oscars ‘in Memoriam’ Tribute
Sunday night’s Academy Awards broadcast honored many stars, alive and dead. Some of the big names included in the tribute section included Kirstie Alley, Olivia Newton-John, and Robbie Coltrane.
However, the late Robert Blake was left out of the Oscar “In Memoriam” tribute.
Many names appeared during Sunday’s TV broadcast as part of the award show’s annual segment. John Travolta introduced the session with a song from Lenny Kravitz and paid homage to the dead entertainers.
However, the organizers who had enough time to include Robert’s name and contribution to the industry didn’t do so.
In the broadcast, Jimmy Kimmel joked that the audience could vote to include Robert or not in the tribute.
Robert’s career in Hollywood lasted over 5 decades. The actor appeared in several films, including In Cold Blood, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and Lost Highway.
Meanwhile, TMZ reports that actress Charlbi Dean’s absence also stirred outrage. The late actress who starred in Triangle of Sadness wasn’t included in the broadcast tribute. However, she was named in the online tributes.
Robert Blake Was Charged With The Murder Of His Second Wife
The omission of Robert Blake’s Oscar memoriam isn’t surprising. Robert died on Thursday from heart disease at age 89, giving the Awards show’s organizers enough time to include him.
Robert was infamous for his off-screen drama, which often affected his film career. One instance was the death of his second wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, in 2001.
Cops charged him with her murder after she was found dead outside Vitello’s restaurant in Los Angeles. The late woman died of a headshot wound while sitting in Robert’s car.
The Baretta actor told police he returned to the eatery to get a pistol when Bonny got gunned down. The court later determined that Robert’s gun was not the murder weapon.
His trial continued for about three months before he received a not-guilty verdict. Considering the Money Train actor’s troubled past, Robert Blake’s absence from the Oscars “In Memoriam” tribute is understandable. However, also considering that he was acquitted, organizers shouldn’t have snubbed his achievements in the industry.
