Chillin’ in My 30s Anime: A Lighthearted Approach to Isekai
Chillin’ in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army is a light novel series written by author Miya Kazuki. It is also illustrated by You Shiina. The story follows the protagonist, a middle-aged man named Ares, who gets fired from his job as a mid-level demon in the Demon King’s army. After returning to the human world, Ares decides to take it easy and live a relaxed life. However, he soon learns that life in the Demon King’s army is much different than life in the human world.
Throughout the series, Ares navigates his relationships, discovers new hobbies, and tries to find a new job. Despite facing challenges and obstacles, Ares maintains his laid-back and positive attitude. He also uses his prior experience as a demon to his advantage for life issues and unexpected obstacles.
The series offers a unique twist on the isekai genre by focusing on a character who has already been to another world and returned. This is different from the typical “transported to another world” protagonist. It also explores themes of self-discovery, finding purpose, and adjusting to new circumstances.
Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime as it airs in Japan, but a premium account is needed to view episodes.
