The Nintendo Wii U and 3DS boast a large library of games that will soon be unavailable to purchase for the masses. Starting March 27, the Nintendo Community will lose a large selection of games. It’s official, the Wii U and 3DS eShops are closing soon.

According to Nintendo’s customer support, you’ll no longer be able to buy and purchase games on the Wii U and 3DS eShops starting March 27. Adding funds to your account via credit card will no longer be viable from May 23 onwards, and you can forget about using eShop gift cards starting from August 29.

As of March 27, 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will alsono longer be possible to download free content, including game demos. Furthermore, as this date draws closer, related services will cease to function:

  • As of May 23, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

  • As of August 29, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until March 27, 2023.” – Nintendo Customer Support

The Wii U was Nintedo’s least popular Nintendo console following the Nintendo Wii’s celebrated success. Still, many Nintendo enthusiasts got to enjoy some well-crafted in-house titles, the likes of Mario and Mario Kart. It was advertised as 50 percent more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3. But that lasted only a short while as the Wii U was obliterated by the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

So what do you think of the 3DS and Wii U eShop’s closing soon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and stay tuned for more updates on the Nerd Stash.
