Game of Thrones can’t return soon enough, with the season six premiere scheduled to air on April 24th. HBO knows this season will be huge as the show will finally overtake the novels on which it is based, and every viewer will be guessing as to what is coming up. They are planning to capitalize on this with a new recap aftershow entitled, appropriately, After the Thrones.
According to Variety, After the Thrones will first air on Monday, April 25th, one day after the premiere of Game of Thrones. Judging from similar recap shows such as The Talking Dead and Talking Bad, we can presume that the show will feature celebrity guests as well as cast and crew members discussing each episode as they occur and analyzing what certain scenes and details mean. After the Thrones is being produced by recent HBO addition Bill Simmons, and will be hosted by collaborators Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald. The pair is currently related to Simmons’ upcoming online project entitled The Ringer, and the pair currently hosts the podcast “The Watch” and previously hosted a podcast called “Watch the Thrones.”
Recap after shows have proven popular with the hits on AMC, and people seem to crave anything Game of Thrones related, so After the Thrones seems like a no-brainer hit waiting to happen. It is currently not scheduled in any of HBO’s timeslots, but instead will only be available through the various HBO streaming services such as HBO Go and HBO Now.
