While speedrunners making games look easy is nothing new, the case with Resident Evil 4 speedruns is something special. The way these speedrunners are handling it, the records from 2005 and the remake today are looking pretty similar despite all the upgrades the remake comes with. Despite all the changes that come with a new coat of paint on a game, it seems some of the old methods and loopholes of speedrunning still hold true. While it’s true that 2023 has only just begun, the Resident Evil 4 remake has sold enough copies to already be considered one of the most successful games of 2023. It’s certainly in the gossip of the video game news scene.
More Any% Standard runs! Sum of Best is already down to a 2:12, so let's get to grindin'. Also, apparently this can happen in Cabin if you kill the Bull Head guy, and then trigger a death animation.https://t.co/9R3S6RZrkX pic.twitter.com/6BhIpIGGxA

While speedrunners are making great headway with the game, things haven’t gone into full swing just yet. For those of you not up to date on how speedrunning games typically work, we got you. After a release. the community usually allows a grace period before official record-keeping starts. This gives the community time to set some rules for how the game is to be run and gives players on the forefront more time to familiarize themselves with the mechanics of the ordeal, learning methods of play, how to exploit the game and other key details that they’ll need in the future for their Resident Evil 4 speedrun.
How Are Resident Evil 4 Speedrunners Breaking The Game?
While official runs won’t be starting until late April, gamers have been exploiting feats all on their own until then. The initial runs are impressive, some finishing the game within a mere two hours. Popular speedrunner and streamer, Maxylobes, revealed to the public his methods that improved his run. His tactics eventually led him to a score of two hours and twelve minutes. Early discoveries thanks to him and many others led to scope-related glitches. These allow players to skip boss fights and avoid locked doors. Other techniques, some of which involve letting yourself be attacked in the game, lets everyone save time during their Resident Evil 4 speedrun.
It’s unclear if these issues will be patched in the future. What’s clear now though, is that speedrunners aren’t leaving any stone unturned.
