This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information.

For fans of the Original Trilogy Star Wars films, there is both good and bad news today.  As part of their summer roadshow, Alamo Drafthouse will be showing the 1997 re-release versions of Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in their various theaters throughout the month of August.  The bad news is that this theatrical run is limited to Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, which are not overly common.

For those unfamiliar with the theater chain, Alamo Drafthouse cinemas aim to provide a top notch movie going experience and offer a large variety of solid meal choices as well as alcohol that are made available during the films.  Alamo Drafthouse has been known to occasionally create special dishes around the films they are showing, and it is yet unknown if there will be Star Wars Pizza or beer available.

It is unfortunate there are so few of these theaters around, for the type of experience they are offering a lot of folks would be willing to do some traveling.

Below is a list of all the theatres that will be participating in the Star Wars roadshow:

  • August 6 – San Francisco, CA / The Warfield
  • August 6 – Kansas City, MO / The Midland Theatre
  • August 6 – Washington, D.C. / Warner Theatre
  • August 6 – Los Angeles, CA / The Theatre at the Ace Hotel
  • August 6 – New York, NY / The Town Hall
  • August 6 – Miami, FL / Olympia Theatre
  • August 6 – San Antonio, TX Majestic Theatre
  • August 7 – New York, NY / Kings Theatre
  • August 7 – Dallas, TX / Majestic Theatre
  • August 11 – 13 – Austin, TX / The Long Center for the Performing Arts
  • August 13 – Philadelphia, PA / The Keswick Theatre
  • August 13 – Louisville, KY / Brown Theatre
  • August 20 – Oakland, CA / Paramount Theatre
  • August 27 – Boston, MA / The Boston Opera House
  • Date TBD – Houston, TX / Venue TBD
  • Date TBD – Denver, CO / Venue TBD

The are EXTREMELY serious about etiquette at this theater chain.

For those of us who are unable to make it to an Alamo Drafthouse, the next Star Wars film which will be receiving a wide release is Rogue One which premieres December 18th.

Now that you have seen this article do you intend to take the entire month of August to follow the roadshow around from movie theater to movie theater, never missing a single chance to see the Original Trilogy Star Wars films on the big screen?  Do you find that all Star Wars films and Science Fiction, in general, is a boring waste of time?  Have you managed to get this far in your life without knowing what Star Wars is?  We would love to hear what you have to say about this in the comments below.
