The new Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 anti-cheat upgrade is to be added with the season 3 update, and here we dive into all the details about it.
Ever since Call of Duty: Warzone 1 launched back in 2020, one of the biggest problems with the game has been cheaters. Activision has done its best to stay one step ahead with anti-cheat software. This led to an endless clash between Activision and the cheaters. Every time the developers found a way to block the hacks, the sneaky cheaters always discovered a way to get back in. However, Activision tried a new method with their Ricochet anti-cheat system for punishing the cheaters; Not to ban them, but to make their shots useless, and their Operators invisible!
MW2 & Warzone 2 Anti-Cheat Update in Season 3
Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Ricochet anti-cheat system is getting a huge update, with the beginning of season 3 on April 12. The developers have announced various changes in this new update, meaning it won’t be just a wave of bans this time.
First off, for those cheaters using “third-party devices”, you’re done! Any device (like Cronus) that helps with AI aim assist and isn’t officially approved, will be useless for PC Warzone and MW2 players. This has been the players’ request since the first season, and thankfully, the developers are doing something about it.

However, sometimes legitimate skillful players are banned by mistake, and other players report. A new feature called the “Replay Investigation” has been added to MW2 and Warzone 2 anti-cheat system for this outcome. With this new method, the gameplays are stored by Ricochet, and if a player is banned by mistake, their plays will be reviewed.
Punishing the Cheaters by Ricochet!
Besides the additions mentioned above, there will be other ways to fight off the cheaters in Warzone 2 and MW2. The Ricochet anti-cheat system offers three methods to rule out the cheaters: Cloaking, Disarm, and Damage Shield.
Cloaking
Cloaking is a totally new addition to the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 anti-cheat system. As the image above shows, if a cheater is detected and shoots a legit player, the player disappears!
This vanishing act only applies to the cheater’s sight, and he won’t see any legit player on the map. This rules out the cheater, while other players will continue their match normally.
Disarm
In this method, if the cheater is detected, their weapons will become useless. They won’t be able to pick anything, and their guns will go away. This makes the cheater either quit the game or be eliminated by others.
Damage Shield
Detected cheaters see their shots become useless. This is referred to as “Damage Shield” for legitimate players. This is not actually a new addition to Warzone 2 anti-cheat system. It has simply been improved. The damage shield was one of the first methods Ricochet fighting the cheaters back in Warzone 1 at Caldera.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. MW2 and Warzone 2 Season 3 will start on April 12.
