Keep reading to learn how to identify every type of ghost in Demonologist.
Demonologist: How to Identify Every Type of Ghost
In Demonologist, ghosts can be identified by their behavior and the different types of evidence they leave. Their different evidence types are determined and collected using the many tools that you have available to you within the game. The tools available can be found here.
Iblis
One of the primary ways that you can tell the spirit is an Iblis is by its speech. When you are near an Iblis, it will likely talk to you and speak words that most other ghosts aren’t able to. However, the Iblis can always tell where its prey is, so if it hunts, it’s likely that you will not be able to hide or get away from it very easily. If you are hunted, note how fast the ghost is when it nears you. The Iblis will run if it is far from you but will slow down when it nears you.
The Iblis will appear on an ESG Device, as well as draw on an Easel Canvas and respond to you through the Spirit Box.
Deogen
The Deogen is a ghost that will only hunt one player at a time. If the Deogen has its sights set on you, it will likely not give up until it gets tired of the chase or catches up to you. If a Deogen is hunting you, the rest of your team will be safe from its attacks most of the time.
The Deogen will leave Ectoplasm Stains, Fingerprints, and it will appear on an ESG Device.
Agash
The Agash thrives in colder temperatures and, according to the in-game tablet, even feeds on the cold. Whenever an Agash is hunting you, you can see its breath. When you are in the room that the Agash is residing in, you will also see a very clear temperature drop.
The Agash will leave Ectoplasm Stains, create Freezing Temperatures, and leave Fingerprints.
Shade
Shades are very well known for not wanting to be in direct light. If you are in a room where a Shade is residing, the lights will either be turned off or the lightbulbs will blow, leaving them unable to turn back on. However, a Shade will always be more aggressive in darker environments and weakened in the light.
The Shade will leave Ectoplasm Stains, give a Spirit Box response, and leave an Easel Canvas drawing.
Onryo
Onryos tend to be fairly picky ghosts, choosing one person to avoid attacking and attack the others. If they choose someone to avoid attacking and there are others around that person, an Onryo will become very aggressive toward the others in the room. However, if they choose not to attack you, they will leave you unharmed throughout the duration of the haunt.
An Onryo will create a Level 5 EMF reading, leave Fingerprints, and create an Easel Canvas drawing.
Oni
An Oni is a very dangerous and very fast ghost. When an Oni gets near you, it can lower your Sanity very quickly.
An Oni will create a Level 5 EMF reading, produce Freezing Temperatures, and leave Fingerprints.
Thaye
A Thaye can appear to you as a child or an older ghost in appearance and voice. If a Thaye appears to you as a younger child, it will be very aggressive and fast. However, if they appear older, they will be much less aggressive and slow.
A Thaye will give a Spirit Box response, leave Fingerprints, and create an Easel Canvas drawing.
Raiju
A Raiju is a ghost that enjoys being alone. However, that also means that if you are alone, you will be a much easier target for a Raiju. If you stick in groups around a Raiju, you will be much safer.
A Raiju will leave Ectoplasm Stains, produces Freezing Temperatures, and create an ESG Device reaction.
Mare
A Mare is a slightly more inactive ghost, but it does speak a lot more often than other ghosts do. The Mare is a pretty hard one to detect, but it doesn’t like to hunt when you are in a group.
A Mare will create a Level 5 EMF reading, produce Freezing Temperatures, and create an Easel Canvas drawing.
Naamah
There is no information listed on the Naamah. However, the Naamah leaves Ectoplasm Stains, creates an Easel Canvas drawing, and produces a reaction on an ESG Device.

The Abaddon only likes to hunt prey that are defenseless. They are fairly intelligent and will only target players who are defending themselves, and at that point, will be very deadly. If you are holding a crucifix, there is a good chance you will be ignored during a hunt.
An Abaddon will produce a Level 5 EMF reading, respond to a Spirit Box, and produce Freezing Temperatures.
Guipo
There is no information listed on the Guipo. However, the Guipo leaves Ectoplasm Stains, responds to a Spirit Box, and produces a reaction on an ESG Device.
Revenant
The Revenant is one of the more dangerous ghosts since it will hunt whoever it chooses, regardless of the player’s Sanity. Since the ghost is so unpredictable, knowing how to protect yourself is difficult. However, if a Revenant stays calm rather than becoming aggressive, it is much easier to find them.
The Revenant produces Freezing Temperatures, leaves Fingerprints, and will create an Easel Canvas drawing.
Poltergeist
Poltergeists are very prone to throwing objects around different rooms. It does this to lower your Sanity so it can hunt more quickly. The most active a Poltergeist is, the quicker your Sanity will dwindle. However, once everything in the area has been thrown, a Poltergeist will calm down.
A Poltergeist will respond to a Spirit Box, leave Fingerprints, and create an ESG Device reaction.
Jinn
Jinns are very active ghosts that hunt often. However, that isn’t always a bad thing. Since the Jinn is so active, it will be revealed quickly, and the haunt will not take long.
A Jinn will create a Level 5 EFM reading, produce Freezing Temperatures, and create an ESG Device reaction.
Hantu
Hantu enjoy lowering your Sanity through your own mind with its words. If you hear a Hantu speaking to you, your Sanity will decrease quickly. The more a Hantu speaks to you, the easier of a target you will become. However, you can take Sanity Pills to slow the lowering of your Sanity in a Hantu’s presence.
A Hantu will respond to a Spirit Box, produce Freezing Temperatures, and create an Easel Canvas drawing.
Wraith

A Goryo will produce a Level 5 EMF reading, leave Fingerprints, and produce an ESG Device reaction.

Demons leave Ectoplasm Stains, produce Freezing Temperatures, and create Easel Canvas drawings.

The Gul will respond to a Spirit Box, produce Freezing Temperatures, and leave Fingerprints.
Boogey
There is no recorded information on the Boogey ghost type. However, the Boogey will produce a Level 5 EMF reading, respond to a Spirit Box, and create a reaction on an ESG Device.
Yurei
The Yurei is a smarter ghost. It will feed on very small amounts of Sanity over time, making it much less noticeable but making it easier to target players later on in the haunt. The Yurei is more likely to hunt when you are traveling in a ground of players but is weaker when players stick to themselves.
The Yurei will create a Level 5 EMF reading, leave Ectoplasm Stains, and create a reaction on an ESG Device.
