Worms in a tank? What a wonderful time to be alive!

Team17, the veteran game developer, and international game label today announced that it will be bringing its forthcoming Worms W.M.D to boxed retail with distribution partner Sold Out. The game will be the newest entry in the long-running franchise. Worms W.M.D will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year, the game will feature aย fresh, new look, 2D cartoon-inspired worm, as well as gorgeous hand-drawn landscapes .

My worms will wear cactus-sombreros if I want them too!

For the first time in the series, players will be able to use vehicles and even enter buildings. This is huge news, and will surely change the way fans of the franchise engage in tactical worm-based warfare. You will be ableย to take to the skies and rain down metal and death from the new helicopter, or traverse across the landscape like gods of war in tanks. These vehiclesย will allow you to move faster, bring heavy firepower, and protect your worms from death at the hands of the enemy.

Worms W.M.Dย promise a solid and extensive single player experience, that will include training, campaign and challenge modes. Once you grow bored with killing CPU-controlled worms, you can jump into the awesome and addictive multiplayer the series is known for, complete with local couch co-op (hell yeah!) and online modes supporting up to 6 players with teams of up to 8 worms each.

CEO of Team17, Debbie Bestwick, said, โ€œAfter recently celebrating Team17โ€™s 25th anniversary, 2016 marks 21 years for the Worms franchise. Besides making lots of us feel old, we listened to our loyal fans to create what we believe is the definitive Worms experience in W.M.D. Fans will now also be able to pick the game up in boxed form from retailers around the globeโ€.

โ€œSold Out has helped Team17 successfully place multiple versions of Worms onto store shelves, and itโ€™s a pleasure to be taking on similar duties with Worms W.M.D. We think long-term fans of the Worms series will appreciate an engine that maximises the fun of Worms classic physics and gameplay. Team17 has truly captured the essence of fantastic titles like Worms World Party and Worms Armageddon to deliver what will be the best-selling version of the Worms experience to date,โ€ added Garry Williams, CEO of Sold Out.

I don’t know about you, but this news has me super excited. This is truly one of the underappreciatedย franchises in gaming, and if you are unfamiliar with it… do yourself a favor and check it out right away.
