Every class in Diablo 4 has a class mechanic, like the Barbarian’s Arsenal System or the Druid’s Spirit Boons, and the Sorcerer has Enchantment Slots. The class mechanic isn’t related to enchanting gear; instead, you’re more or less enchanting your spells. In doing so, Sorcerers can altar the way their spells work, offering some pretty unique gameplay loops, like demons exploding in a fireball. However, Enchantment Slots have to first be unlocked in Diablo 4.
How To Unlock Enchantment Slots

To unlock Enchantment Slots in Diablo 4, you have to first level up your Sorcerer to level 15. After that, you’ll get the class quest “Legacy of the Magi” automatically added to your journal. Up until level 50, the best way to level up is via Helltides.
Once you have your class quest, travel to Nevesk to find Mordarin. Nevesk is located southwest of Kyovashad, hugging the lower-left border of the Fractured Peaks.
- Go into your quest journal and set Legacy of the Magi as your main quest.
- Mordarin will send you to the Lost Archives dungeon to retrieve the Forgotten Codex. It’s in the dungeon, in the Dust-Covered Chest.
- Return to Mordarin with the Forgotten Codex and join him in a ritual involving earth, water, fire, and air. You have to light each brazier related to the elements.
- During the ritual, defeat any and all demons that spawn until Mordarin is finished with the ritual.
With the demons defeated, the ritual will be completed and the class quest is over. For your valiant efforts, Mordarin will unlock a single Enchantment Slot. You’ll automatically unlock a second Enchantment Slot when you reach level 30. No follow-up talk or quest necessary.
To equip a spell to an Enchantment Slot, open your skill tree to assign abilities to your hotbar. Pick a spell and slot it in along the bottom, just above your toolbar. Hovering over a spell and looking under “Enchantment Effect” will detail the buffs you gain.
Note that you do not have to use any spells you plug into your Enchantment Slots. Also, spells added to Enchantments Slots can still be added to your rotation.
