Xbox Announces Barbie Series S and Controller Lineup

We are about to go into a Barbie world in more ways than one. Beyond the movie coming in July, Xbox announced a new controller lineup and a special Barbie Series S that has been built into a DreamHouse. You will be able to win one of these on July 10 from the Xbox Twitter account and Microsoft Rewards, which include the interchangeable controller faceplates and the console-dollhouse hybrid.

Xbox has been known for various collaborations beyond Barbie. For younger audiences, it has had Spongebob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Series X consoles celebrating Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. For movies, it has had some big collaborations, like one with Marvel to promote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The company’s long history of custom controllers and consoles has been a part of its identity.

The crossover goes beyond the physical console and controllers. Forza Horizon 5 will deliver a pink 1956 Chevrolet EV Corvette and a themed 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup. These vehicles will be seen in the film, with Margot Robbie driving the Chevrolet and Ryan Gosling helming the pickup. You can tear up the roads of Mexico with these by downloading them from the Message Center. On July 14, developers who worked on the Forza games will be featured on the World of Barbie account for a special livestream about Barbie and Forza.

The timing of the Xbox crossover with the Barbie movie is fitting, as it releases in theaters on July 21. Robbie and Gosling lead the vibrantly pink world with a stellar supporting cast. They will be joined by Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Michael Cera, John Cena, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, and more. It is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig.
