Today Marvel Games andย EA have announced a single-player Black Panther game from a new Seattle-based studio, Cliffhanger Games. Like Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, this will be a third-person, single-player action-adventure. Below, you can see the flashy reveal animation of a vibranium panther made from Wakandan tech coming out of the darkness.

Not many details are known about what we can expect from the game. Not even a release window or platform has been announced. It is described as having an “expansive and reactive world,” making it unclear how open the game will be and if mechanics will alter Wakanda based on your actions. Like any superhero game, the developers want something that “empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector.”

EA Announced New Studio, Cliffhanger Games, Which Will Make a Black Panther Game

Although new, Cliffhanger Games is more than capable of taking on a Black Panther game. In a press release announcing the game, the studio is led by former Monolith Productions leader Kevin Stephens. The studio got put on the map by its The Lord of the Rings games, Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. While Stephens’ former studio works on its Wonder Woman game for DC, he has now stepped into the Marvel universe. People joining him in this new venture have worked on games like Call of Duty, God of War, and Halo Infinite.

Like other lesser-known Marvel characters, between this new game and other appearances beyond the pages of a comic, Black Panther has become an increasingly popular character. Introduced to a larger audience with Captain America: Civil War, we have seen him in plenty of movies starring the late Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright, who took up the mantle in Wakanda Forever. The character also appeared in the Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics. He will also be in Amy Hennig’s new studio’s game, an untitled Black Panther and Captain America project.
