The Ranked Split 1 of League of Legends in 2023 has reached its end, and players want to know when the Ranked Split 2 will now start. Splits are the annual Ranked Seasons of the game, divided into two parts. Players earn special rewards depending on where they land on the Ranked Ladder during a Split. League of Legends Split 1 reached its end on July 17 at 11:59 PM local server time. When Split 1 ended, the rank queues temporarily became unavailable. Players lost their tier rank and couldn’t play matches on Ranked Ladder.
League of Legends Ranked Split 2 will start on July 19 at noon local time. The rank queues will reopen that day, but your tier rank will be completely reset. Since the first Ranked Split lasted until past the halfway point of 2023, you should expect Split 2 to last until the end of the year. Split 2 may possibly bleed into the early parts of 2024 before Riot Games moves on to the first Split of 2024.
What are Splits in League of Legends?
League of Legends previously had yearly Ranked Seasons, lasting from January to November. The developers at Riot Games decided to change the formula for 2023. Instead of having one season that lasted the full year, the company separated the Ranked Season into Split 1 and 2.
Each Split will have you begin unranked, but you can earn your starting position by playing ten placement matches. How well you do in the placement matches will determine your starting position in the current Split’s Ranked ladder.
You participate in placement matches at the start of every new Ranked Season or if you’ve never played the game before. You don’t lose League Points in placement matches and can’t get a rank higher than a Platinum I.
Playing in Ranked Split matches will reward you with Split Points (SP) that you can spend to receive unique prizes. Certain rewards are easier to unlock if you’re at a higher rank. For instance, the Victorious Anivia Skin only cost 80 SP if you had a Gold rank or higher, whereas it cost 1600 for lower ranks.
