Remnant 2 is packed with all sorts of things you can chase down and pursue, and it can become overwhelming if you don’t know what you should do first. The sequel to Gunfire Games’ third-person action RPG is bigger and better in almost every respect. In addition to new worlds, stories, and characters, some core game mechanics have also changed. These are the 5 things you should do first in Remnant 2.

Find the Right Difficulty

As soon as you make your character, you will be presented with the first real decision you have to make. If you’re a veteran returning from the first game, then Veteran is aptly named. I suggest going with Survivor difficulty if you’re new to the game. It doesn’t make anything too easy, but it’s nowhere near as punishing as the first game’s difficulty. Nightmare is for masochists; we suggest skipping that until you have some gear, experience, and knowledge of how the game works.

Go to the Shooting Range

Once you reach the hub known as Ward 13, you can find all sorts of people and vendors that can sell you various items, armor, and weaponry. While meeting all the new faces, you will meet an Arms Dealer named Brabus. This rough and gruff vendor can sell you weapons, and he also happens to manage a firing range. Take advantage of this diversion to test out all your weapons and the ideal damage range your weapons are effective from.

Play With Your Friends

Once you finish exploring Ward 13 and talking to everybody that calls it home, you must follow Ford into the old Ward from the original Remnant. After some cutscenes and a Worldstone encounter, you will find yourself in a new world. At this point, all of the game’s co-op features will unlock. You can play with up to 2 other players. Crossplay isn’t ready for launch, but the first game eventually got it with an update. Hopefully, this one gets it at some point down the road.

Reroll your Campaign

Remnant 2, like its predecessor, features procedural generation to create a unique campaign experience every time you play a campaign. The prologue and Ward 13’s first visit are always the same, but the first world you travel to after touching the Worldstone can change. The game generates a random selection of curated, hand-crafted biomes, dungeons, stories, and boss fights for you to progress through. If you don’t like your campaign, head to a Worldstone and choose the Reroll campaign feature to generate a new version of your playthrough.

Unlock a second Archetype.

If you look around Ward 13, you might find random items at various vendors that cost 1,500 Scrap. These items may not seem like much, a random medic ribbon or a rusted war medal, but these items are how you can unlock a second class. Once you progress through the first world and open up the second Archetype slot, we suggest returning to Ward 13. Here, you can buy items for the starter classes. Then speak to Wallace near the dock. He can take those particular items and convert them to items that let you equip a second class.

With this handy list of the 5 first things you should do first in Remnant 2, you should have a firm grasp on how to begin your new adventure. Grab some friends, unlock a new class, and prepare to fight for your life.
