This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Remnant 2 gives you the chance to play with a variety of classes known as archetypes. Each one has a unique appearance that matches their specialty. These archetypes have their strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to take on different roles during combat. These roles can support or cover other archetypes in multiplayer, giving you various team combinations for exploring. But there are times when you might want to swap your archetype for variety’s sake. You can make another character, but that clears your progress. Can you change archetypes in Remnant 2, and how do you do it?

After you select your first archetype, you must find certain items known as Engrams. You must first obtain the base material from a vendor, then convert the material into an Engram. These materials can be found around Ward 13. They are:

  • Medic: Medic Pin (Dr. Norah)
  • Handler: Old Whistle (Mudtooth)
  • Hunter: Rusty Medal (Brabus)
  • Challenger: Old Metal Tool (Reggie)

You already have the archetype if you don’t see the material for sale. For instance, Challengers won’t see the Old Metal Tool for sale because they wouldn’t be able to use it. The Gunslinger is the exception to this, as you must complete your second world and get a Worn Cylinder from Mudtooth. Exhaust all of his stories, and he will give it to you. It’s not for sale but still obtained at Ward 13.

Once you have the material, visit Wallace in Ward 13, and he will convert the material into an Engram. The process isn’t free, but it’s worth the price when you get your new archetype. You can do this with all the materials to get access to all of the starting archetypes.

Once you have multiple archetypes, go to the Archetype screen in your menu. Your Primary Archetype will be equipped, but you can now switch Engrams to use other unlocked archetypes.

As you start progressing through several worlds, you will obtain other archetypes other than the ones available at the start. The process is the same: find the material and return it to Wallace. This allows you to experiment with several classes and see which one is right for you. You will retain experience when changing archetypes, though new ones start at the first level.
