The premise of the gameย is simple. Players find themselves on a โdesolate, windswept Hebridian islandโ with only a note in hand. The note cryptically reads, โThe only way off the island is through the other 99.โ It kicks off from there, and as players make their way through the game, they are able to decide between stealth and a brutal visceral combat in order to survive the island and ward off the gameโs titular other 99 NPCs.
Burning Arrowโs descriptionย of the game promises to stretch your humanity to a breaking point as you fight to gather food, water, and weapons on an island โwhere you have nothing. Where you are nothing.โ It would appear The Other 99 is trying to carve its mark in a genre that is already saturated with unsettling first-person horror narratives. It is a big feat, though not impossible, and seeing Burning Arrowโs fresh approach to the genre will definitely be something to anticipate. The premise alone is intriguing, as the game aims to be couple the survival and the psychological, with a strong emphasis on human nature.
Though little information is known about the game, this could be a deliberate choice on the part of the developers. Allowing players go into the story somewhat blind only adds to the unnerving experience as you have to make your way through the island.
