Introducing celebrities, movie characters, and even memes to online games has been the trend in recent years. Especially the battle-royale games always add characters we know from real life.ย Fortniteย is an excellent example, as the game’s metaverse-esque world is harmonious for surreal characters or loved celebrities.ย Call of Dutyย was primarily focused on characters related to theย CoDย universe, but this will be a first. Nicki Minaj is coming toย Call of Duty:ย Modern Warfare 2ย andย Warzone 2ย Season 5. Nicki Minaj’s style is undoubtedly hard to match withย CoD, but that addition could be an evolution for the franchise’s online content.

Nicki Minaj’s representing character’s arrival was heralded by a leaker two weeks ago, and now it’s official. She will be appearing as The Harajuku Barbie in Season 5. The operator doesn’t directly represent herself; the character references her alter ego we saw in the Red Ruby Da Sleeze music video. As revealed before, the game is getting a bundle called “50 Years of Hip Hop Celebration“, and there are hip-hop stars such asย Snoop Dogย andย 21 Savage. That must be fun for the hip-hop loverย CoDย players, and we hope that Activision works on including more hip-hop stars in that collection.

One of the funny details we see about The Harajuku Barbie’s arrival is her pinkย rifle inย Warzone 2ย andย MW2. Though the world is already surrounded byย Barbieย references lately, it’s not surprising to see Barbie references on one of the most played games in the world. It’s worth noting that The Harajuku Barbie is the first “self-named female operator” for the franchise.ย Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2ย is dropping Season 5 onย August 2, so that’s when you’ll meet Nicki Minaj in the game. There will be a big content update, so stay tuned for the patch notes we will share.
