After weeks of cryptic clues and hints, the latest Overwatch 2 trailer has finally revealed the identity of The Enigma. The minute-long trailer is a far cry from Blizzard’s typically cheery announcements, but it certainly got our attention! As it turns out, the one-and-only John Cena is the voice of The Enigma. This, unfortunately, means that the theories regarding Cena joining Overwatch 2’s line-up are incorrect, but having such a notable figure promote the game is surely an effective marketing strategy!

What was The Enigma Announcing?

It’s been a long time coming, but Overwatch 2 is finally getting story-based PvE content. With an August 10th release date, the “Invasion” update is set to be the game’s biggest update ever! New maps, a fresh support character, and an original game mode will all be released alongside the story missions.

Unfortunately, this isn’t all free. Blizzard has confirmed that the story missions will come with a hefty $15 price tag, something that will surely limit its popularity. The story content will, however, support online co-op — a feature that fans have been begging for since the start.

Fight the Invasion Trailer

Although it’s a big deal that Blizzard has finally revealed the identity of The Enigma, it isn’t the only trailer they announced today. Fans of the more traditional Overwatch 2 animations should be sure to check out the new “Fight the Invasion Trailer.”

The short film follows Sojourn and a few other cast members as they fight off an invasion. As proclaimed by The Enigma (John Cena), it all takes place in Toronto, with the invaders attempting to capture the city’s Omnics. Fans have a lot to digest here, as it hides some serious lore implications!

This all comes shortly after Blizzard admitted to Overwatch 2’s steady decline in player count. One can only hope that this is successful in revitalizing the series.
