Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s longtime editor for its Avengers line, is shifting to the X-Men next year. After teasing some big changes in the coming year, the Marvel editor confirmed he would be running the X-Office in 2024. He takes over for the current editor Jordan D. White. White has been editing Marvel’s X-Titles since 2018. However, the change-up will not occur for some time in the new year as Brevoort still has plenty of stuff to do in the Avengers line.

News of Tom Brevoort’s shift from Avengers to X-Men has been rumored since the editor released his newsletter last week. In the newsletter, he noted that he had been approached by Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Entertainment, about changing things up career-wise. Brevoort didn’t elaborate any further on the matter, and fans were left speculating wildly about what it meant. To quash the rumors flying around, Brevoort decided to post to his social media that he would be taking over the X-Titles.

However, he also noted that the switch-up would not occur for quite a while. In fact, the editor still has a ton of plans in store for the Avengers before the change occurs, including a massive crossover planned for next year. Plus, Jordan D. White still has some fun in store for the X-Men before stepping aside. You know, after the Fall of X event.

Why Shake Things Up?

From the outside, Brevoort’s move to the X-Men seems odd. Especially considering he has manned the Avengers titles for 25 years. In fact, he is the longest-tenured editor at Marvel and has had his hands on several iconic Marvel storylines like Civil War and Secret Invasion. So, why shake things up now?

If Marvel is gearing up to introduce the X-Men and other mutants into its Cinematic Universe, wouldn’t you want someone with a ton of experience behind the wheel? After all, many of Brevoort’s works have already been adapted into successful film and television. Is this Marvel’s way of getting us, and the world, ready for live-action mutants?
