With the new religions cropping up in Starfield, it helps to have them all explained before you decide which one best suit your character. Bethesda dives deep into lore building as the company did in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. This time, they’ve crafted new ideologies within the rich story behind the universe in Starfield. There are still real-world religions, but we’re more focused on the unique ones designed for the game. Let’s jump into these unfamiliar doctrines.
What Are All the New Starfield Religions?
As you explore the rich outer space in Starfield, you will encounter various factions to see just how different and far society developed. Religion is just a natural trajectory as people’s beliefs evolve and change.
As you create your character in the game, you can select a religion as a trait. You can select one out of the three, however. Below is a list of all the Starfield religions you can choose:
- House Va’ruun
- Sanctum Universum
- The Enlightened
Starfield Religions Explained
As you play Starfield, you’ll hear about real-world religions like Hinduism. However, the devs did not want the emphasis to remain on them. Instead, they focus heavily on the new ones we listed above. Let’s learn more about them before you decide on one in the game. Remember, since they’re traits, you will get both buffs and debuffs.
House Va’ruun
- Buff: Momentarily enhances health and endurance when grav leaping.
- Debuff: Stats will drop if you don’t routinely jump.
The Starfield religion of House Va’ruun worships “The Great Serpent.” It’s as simple as that. You worship a giant snake that followers believe will eventually consume everything in the universe. How true this claim is remains to be seen.
Sanctum Universum
- Buff: Save considerably in the church shop.
- Debuff: Cannot access the Enlightened shop.
Those who follow the Sanctum Universum religion in Starfield are as straightforward in their worship as followers of House Va’ruun. Rather than a snake, they worship a singular god. You’ll find these followers across the universe as their freedom gives them the room and time needed to find their deity. No one knows what this deity looks like though.
The Enlightened
- Buff: Business shop discount.
- Debuff: Cannot shop at the Sanctum Universum shop.
The Enlightened religion in Starfield stands out among the two above. Instead of worshiping a single deity or snake figure, The Enlightened followers follow the idea of karma. The good you put out in the world will eventually reward you. So, they promote harmony and mutual care for one another.
