Bethesda gives you plenty of ways to choose your own path, from creating a character to making important decisions based on their identity. In Starfield, you can pick between three religions, but the most prominent are The Enlightened and Sanctum Universal. Like anything in Bethesda RPGs, these are optional but give dialogue choices that can be beneficial in some situations. Beyond dialogue to help you roleplay, these are the religions that offer some reward, so you will want to pick between one of these for a little extra loot. We will go into the details of these two religions, including their rewards. Just think about whether you want loot or want what is best for roleplay options to make your decision.
Starfield Religions: The Enlightened and Sanctum Universal
The Rewards
Gear is a driving force in any RPG. Both religions’ embassies have a chest with goodies waiting for you. The differences are not great, as both chests give you healing items. If you are making a choice based on gear, then decide based on the outfit you earn from each religion. In Starfield, some items have bonus statuses, like seen from the ponchos given to you by the Enlightened and Sanctum Universal.
You can find the Universal chest in its embassy at New Atlantis’ Embassy District. Enlightened’s embassy is located in New Atlantis, too, at The Well. Below are the rewards for you so can see which you like more:
Enlightened:
- x5 Med Packs
- x2 Penicillin
- Water Drink Pack
- Settler Poncho (+10 health)
- Charity in a Godless Universe, Part I
- Charity in a Godless Universe, Part II
- Charity in a Godless Universe, Part III
- Charity in a Godless Universe, Part IV
Universal:
- x5 Med Packs
- x2 Addichrone
- Festive Neocity Poncho (5% increase in oxygen recovery)
- Boom Pop! Orange
- Sanctum Universum, Vol I
- Sanctum Universum, Vol II
- Sanctum Universum, Vol III
The Faith
If you want to roleplay, consider what these religions mean to you. In your mind, how does faith or a lack of faith affect your decisions and interactions? In Starfield, choosing Enlightened, Universal, or The Va’ruun can alter how you view yourself in this vast universe. We are only focused on two of those three, so let’s get into what they do or don’t believe in.
The Enlightened is a larger scaled, more organized form of Atheism. Their focus is kindness and empathy, without the need for a higher entity to guide them on what is right or wrong. Their community and principles are their driving force. While you will meet characters within this religion, they have less impact on the main story.
Universal is more of a traditional organized religion. They believe in God, who has paved the path for humans to achieve great heights across the galaxy. Think of any real religion with a galactic twist. Like in real life, this is a dominant religion. If you want more options in the story from key players, this is the religion to pick, as you will use those dialogue options more often, even in the main story.
Starfield will be released worldwide on September 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also be available on Game Pass.
