As you fly through the great expanse of space with your companions in Starfield, you’ll come across the option to get other ships to use. These ships are pretty easy to get but may feel complex if you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. If you don’t already know how, we wrote out a comprehensive guide on how to buy and capture more ships in Starfield.

If you are looking to buy more ships, you’ll want to head over to one of the main cities in the Settled Systems, including Cydonia, New Atlantis, and others. Here, you will always be able to find a Ship Services Technician at the Spaceport to help you with ship upgrades, purchases, or even repairs for your current ship. The ships and upgrades all cost a different amount of credits, but repairing your ship costs 1000 credits.

How to Capture More Ships in Starfield

If you don’t want to purchase more ships and would much rather capture other ships instead, then that’s pretty simple to do as well. Instead of destroying a ship in combat, destroying the ship as well as the resources that you could take for yourself, aim for the ship’s engines and destroy them. Before you do this, you’ll want the Targeting Control System skill to make it easier to do what we said before. After the engines have been blown, you will be given the option to dock and board the ship as well as kill all the enemies inside. If you happen to board a ship of a higher class, you might require the Piloting skill first. Realistically, it is best to have both skills ready, just in case.

The Targeting Control skill lets you lock onto skips to make it easier to destroy their shields and aim for their engines. So long as the ship is in good health, you’ll be able to board it and claim it for yourself. If you happen to be in a scuffle with multiple ships and want to board one, you will only be able to board the very last one that stays standing. That means that if you’re looking for a particular ship, you need to be careful about other ships around it or do your best to eliminate the other ships to be able to capture the one of your preference.
