A recent interview with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi confirmed that there is no DLC coming for the hit Nintendo Switch title. The Breath of the Wild sequel launched earlier this year, and many had assumed it would receive DLC like its predecessor, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

No Tears of the Kingdom DLC is Coming

The launch of Tears of the Kingdom back in May of this year quickly saw the latest Zelda title become one of the best-selling Switch games of all time, and nearly the best of the year with more than 18 million copies to date. It only makes sense that Nintendo would want to follow that up with additional content to continue the success of this already massive game. That doesn’t appear to be the plan for the team behind Tears of the Kingdom, however, and a recent interview with Japanese gaming publication Famitsu shares some light on why.

In the recent Famitsu interview, Tears of the Kingdom producer Eiji Aonuma says there are “no plans to release additional content” right now. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean the adventures in the world this team has created through both TotK and BotW are through, because Aonuma seems hopeful that there will be yet another sequel sometime in the future.

Breath of the Wild had multiple DLC additions, titled The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad, which added new content to expand an already fairly large game. That DLC is a large part of the reason many fans were expecting an announcement for Tears of the Kingdom DLC at some point, and many will likely be disappointed at this news. It’s unlikely that many will complain about this potential sequel announcement, though, so there’s still a lot for Zelda fans to look forward to, especially moving towards the release of the Nintendo Switch follow-up.
