How far is too far for a Kardashian? Kim Kardashian has come under fire for her latest bikini selfie which fans deem an insensitive tribute to Steve Harwell following his death. Iconic Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell passed away on Monday, September 4 following a Liver failure. Following his death at 56, several fans and celebrities took to social media to pay their last respect with heartfelt tributes. Kim seemingly joined the emotional outpouring in what fans now consider a shallow display.
Kim References Steve Harwell’s Lyrics in Gold Bikini Selfie
Via Instagram, the SKIMS CEO shared two mirror selfies of herself in a gold bikini. The photos featured Kim Kardashian flaunting her infamous curves in the metallic gold two-piece bikini in what appeared to be her bedroom. Captioning the photos, she wrote,
“All that glitters is gold.”
Netizens immediately recognized the lines as an excerpt from the lyrics of Smash Mouth’s 1999 hit song, All Stars. Ultimately, many deemed the caption as insensitive considering the lead singer Steve Harwell’s death was announced only hours prior. Taking to the comment section, fans expressed disappointment that the reality star would think of creating a “thirst trap” and referencing the singer’s lines in that way soon after his death. They tagged her as tone deaf, noting the post was a reflection of how shallow Kim could get in pursuit of fame. One commenter wrote,
“Your caption proves how shallow you are as a person.”
Another wrote,
“Low key tone deaf but go off.”
A third commented,
“Someone dies and you use their lyrics to post a thirst trap.”
Fans Demand Kim Takes Down Tribute to Steve
Some aggrieved fans demanded that Kim Kardashian takes down her “tone-deaf” bikini post, and let Steve Harwell have his day. One wrote,
“Did you know the guy that sang this song just died?”
Another comment read,
“Kim the Smash Mouth guy just died. Take this down.”
