Mobile gaming has been a hot topic for a very long time. And why wouldn’t it be, with iconic games like Tetris, Pac-Man, Angry Birds, and Candy Crush all available in your pocket and at your fingertips? As cellphone technology has advanced, so have mobile games, with new, more technologically demanding titles like Genshin Impact making their presence known. However, there’s always been an invisible wall between mobile gaming and “hardcore” games that require a PC or gaming console to handle their technology specs. Until now, as Apple has just announced the iPhone 15 with the shocking news that it’ll be able to play Assassin’s Creed Mirage, among other AAA games.

Apple Announces the iPhone 15 With AAA Game Compatability

In a massive announcement earlier today, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus to audiences ahead of its September 22nd release. Among the new phone’s many new features – including a lot of focus on the new camera – was its ability to play select AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and Death Stranding. According to Apple, this newest leap forward is made possible by the A17 Pro Chip in the iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max, allowing the phone to run hardware-accelerated ray tracing on a 6-core GPU, similar to the kind found on PCs and dedicated gaming consoles.

In essence, Apple is promising that the hardware leaps pioneered by the iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max will allow you to turn your iPhone – with a display ranging from 6.1 to 6.7 inches – into a pocket-sized gaming console with all the same capabilities as an Xbox, PlayStation, or PC. It’s hard to tell how far the phone’s game library will extend since only a few games have been announced with iPhone release dates later this year. If these big-name games do well, then it’s likely that we’ll see more AAA games come to the iPhone 15; in addition, this could be great news for audiences who are unable to play games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage or the RE4 Remake on console or PC. However, if these games fail to live up to expectations, this could spell doom for Apple’s future ventures in mobile gaming.

The iPhone 15 Plus, Pro, and Pro Max will be available for pre-order starting September 15th with an expected release of September 22nd.
