Just two months ago at E3 2016, CD Projekt Red announced that they are making a virtual card game based on their The Witcher 3 version. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game originally planned for closed beta release in September, but now it the developer indicated they will be waiting until October 25th.

On the game’s official forum, a representative posted,

“At E3 we announced that we’d launch the Closed Beta of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game in September. Unfortunately, we feel we need some extra time with the game before we hand it off to you for testing. We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off. Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline. Still, that doesn’t mean we don’t realize that delays can be disappointing, and we apologize for making you wait.”

Playing Gwent
Gwent, for some players, was the highlight of the game.

The fact that CD Projekt Red want to take more time to perfect the game doesn’t seem like a bad thing. After all, not many people want a repeat of something like Halo: The Master Chief Collection‘s release fiasco. And for fans feeling sad at this news, fear not. The game is still available to play at Gamescom next week. In addition, a physical version of Gwent already exists. The card decks are found in the Xbox One Collector’s Edition of The Witcher 3.

Gwent is a stand-alone spinoff based on a minigame for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The closed beta is coming first for PC and Xbox One, with PS4 following soon after.
