Mortal Kombat 1 is an awesome game, revitalizing the franchise with a surprisingly great story and the series’ typical gory battles, but for Switch players, the visuals have been alarming. The iconic fighting game franchise has been a staple in the gaming world for nearly three decades, and this one might be the best one of the series, but that’s not helping to soften the blow when it comes to a $70 price tag notched to sub-par visuals.

Why Are Mortal Kombat 1’s Visuals on Switch Causing Problems?

The announcement of the Switch release was surprising for a next-gen game, and the price tag alongside it was shocking as well. $70 is lofty enough for a game on hardware that’s arguably two generations behind, but add in the premium edition for $100, and you’re going to have a whole lot of people raising their eyebrows.

It is understandable that the visuals would be compromised to some degree, but the characters are the stars of the show here, and some of them look laughable in comparison to the next-gen versions.

Moreover, the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 suffers from performance issues. The game experiences occasional frame drops and lag during battles, which significantly hampers the overall gaming experience. These technical problems are particularly frustrating for players looking for a smooth fighting game experience.

Fans have taken to social media platforms and Reddit to express their disappointment, with many questioning the decision to release a seemingly rushed and poorly optimized version of the game for the same price as the superior version.

It serves as a reminder that when bringing classic games to modern platforms, a careful balance must be struck between preserving the original experience and keeping the same quality of the game in the process. Until such improvements are made, Mortal Kombat 1 players on Switch might have to settle for a trip down memory lane that doesn’t quite live up to their expectations.
