The first DLC expansion for Dark Souls 3 will be released on October 25, 2016. Bandai Namco announced the news today and released a teaser trailer for Ashes of Ariandel to accompany the announcement. Check it out below:

Players can expect the usual of a Dark Souls DLC update: new weapons, items, armor sets, magic, and monsters. There is also a brand new PvP area called the “Immortal Competition,” along with new story elements to further expand on the world of Dark Souls 3. Naturally, there is an entirely new world to explore as well: the frozen wasteland of Ariandel. The icy land has been overtaken by corruption and it is up to the player to figure out why and see if there is any way to reverse it.

The release date is the same across all three platforms that Dark Souls 3 is released on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is included with the $25 season pass, but will also be available for individual purchase at $15. The season pass comes with one future DLC release, which will probably retail for the same cost as Ashes of Ariandel. This means Dark Souls 3 fanatics will probably want to pick up the season pass and save $5 on the total.

This enemy is probably called the "Horrible Skull Beetle."

We gave Dark Souls 3 four out of five stars in our review of the standalone game. Our review stated, “The world is stunning to behold and exploring it becomes an addiction.” Our review also praised the monsters and bosses as “some of the best in the series.” If Ashes of Ariandel can keep up the pace set by the base game, a return to the kingdom of Lothric may be in order come October 25th.

Excited for the first Dark Souls 3 expansion? What secrets will be revealed in the frozen waste of Ariandel? Let us know in the comments below!
