Two of comic’s biggest names, Brian Michael Bendis and Grant Morrison, are putting their “powers” to good use. The duo is joining forces to an upcoming comic anthology called General Strike: Calexit and Other Tales of Fighting the Good Fight. This Black Mask Studios one-shot works with the Writer’s Guild of America to support the workers impacted by the strike. Specifically, profits from the crowdfunded project will go to the Entertainment Community Fund which supports striking workers in the entertainment field.
General Strike Reporting For Duty!
General Strike: Calexit and Other Tales of Fighting the Good Fight is a 48-page one-shot anthology. It is dedicated to the struggle for economic equality that is all too common today. The writers involved in the project are all striking WGA members and will use all profits of the issue to help support other striking members of the entertainment community. This extends beyond writers to include the crew members, staff, and other workers impacted by the WGA strike.
The world of Calexit comes from the minds of Matteo Pizzolo, Amancay Nahuelpan, Carlos Granda, and Tyler Boss. It focuses on a world where California has seceded from the rest of the United States and is at war with a fascist U.S. President.
Brian Michael Bendis And Grant Morrison And WGA, Oh My!
Brian Michael Bendis And Grant Morrison are just some of the WGA talent in this endeavor. The crowdfunded anthology brings together a slew of WGA talent from across all mediums including comics, television, and film. This includes Judalina Neira, Rodney Barnes, Daniel Dominguez, Charley Feldman, and more.
Even with a tentative deal brokered in the WGA strike, the project is still moving forward. The folks at Black Mask Studios and behind Calexit still want to help. After all, SAG is still on strike and funds need to be in place for those still struggling in other entertainment areas. This includes the Animation Guild, IATSE, and more. Currently, the project has reached its $2,800 goal and is up to $5,712 in support with 23 days left.
