It appears Strictly star Helen Skelton has ulterior motives for stalling her and ex-Richie Myler’s divorce proceedings after all. Helen and Richie announced the split in April last year, just four months after welcoming their third baby together. At the time, the 40-year-old, who wed Richie in December 2013 confirmed they were no longer a couple on social media. She also revealed her intention to cordially co-parent her “small children” with Richie even as they moved on with their lives in separate homes. Over one year later, neither has fully moved on, as the divorce proceedings keep getting in the way.
Why Richie Myler and Helen Skelton’s Divorce is on Hold
Richie, who welcomed a daughter with his new partner Stephanie Thirkill in May, claims his scorned ex is in fact holding up intentionally to prevent him from getting hitched to someone else. According to the Rugby League scrum half, his ex-wife kept “dragging her heels over the divorce.” Helen Skelton’s actions ultimately prevent Richie Myler from “moving forward with his life” per the athlete.
Notably, the court earlier approved a decree nisi stating the former couple had nothing stopping them from formally separating. Despite receiving the decree, Helen reportedly refuses to sign off, prompting Richie’s allegations. Several sources have affirmed Richie’s claims, noting that Helen Skelton’s unwillingness to finalize the divorce has left her ex frustrated as no one understood the delay. Speaking to DailyMail, the source divulged,
“There is a feeling that Helen’s reluctance to sign the papers is because she is fearful Richie will propose to new partner Stephanie and she’s just not ready for that.”
Another insider pointed out that the media personality and her solicitor have gone “radio silent.” Given that the mom-of-three remains the only party allowed to file the decree absolute since she filed for the divorce, neither party could make headway if she keeps holding off. However, one source spoke in Helen Skelton’s defense, claiming she had no reason to hinder her divorce. They said,
“Helen is the person who filed for divorce and while it’s incredibly emotional saying goodbye to her marriage, there’s no reason why she would want to prevent it from being official.”
Helen Breaks Silence on Richie Split
On her part, Helen Skelton stands by her decision to ensure her kids’s father remains a constant fixture in her life despite their divorce. Earlier this week, the mother of three went candid about the turn of events in an interview. She accused the rugby player of leaving her for another woman, a move which admittedly left her shocked and devastated.
Nonetheless, the star, who claims she “didn’t see it coming,” is willing to put aside her hurt, work with her ex, and keep the happy memories, for the sake of her children. Holding off on a divorce doesn’t exactly seem like an olive branch. But then again, Richie’s allegations may be borne out of mere speculations.
