This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Nowadays, one of the biggest gaming trends is releasing a product and fixing it on the fly. This can be for many reasons. Rushing the launch so as not to compete against another game. Pressure from publishers or something else. Sadly, the ones who lose are the players. We who wait for a product with longing receive something far from ideal. This is happening with Lords of the Fallen on PS5 with its performance. Despite being a magnificent game worthy of praise for its gameplay, graphics, and style, all this is held back by flaws such as stutter and various visual bugs.

Lords of the Fallen’s PS5 Performance Holds Back the Game

Lords of the Fallen is a game that, despite its flaws and lack of optimization, has been very well received. The game has some of the most interesting classes we have seen in the genre. The spells are flashy and devastating. The bosses, while easy, are visually impressive. But despite that, many people have difficulty getting into the game. It’s more than understandable, of course. An action game where you expect everything to flow smoothly suffers a lot from stuttering and other things.

It would be a consolation to say that these problems come to light after several hours or in the final zones, but no, everything appears from the beginning. Sadly, PS5 players must experience these Lords of the Fallen performance glitches during the first zone. In my case, I remember the first boss was almost impossible to do. Not because it was complicated but because the lack of optimization added a level of difficulty that the developers did not advertise. You have to dodge spells from the boss and try not to be affected by the stutter while doing it. If this was the studio’s plan to give us a greater challenge, they succeeded. Of course, it shouldn’t be like that.

The Worst Issues on PS5

Beyond the stutter, other things affect the game quite a bit. If you want to select performance mode, you will never have a 60fps experience at all times. This is sad since other games in the genre have managed to do this. Yes, the resolution is still low, but at least it’s fluid. If you prefer to switch to Quality mode, it will be even worse. When I did it, I felt that the game didn’t go over 20fps, which is clearly not ideal. This is sad because there is no middle ground or a winning mode to choose between fluidity or graphical fidelity.

Even so, we can see that the developers are aware of this and are looking for ways to fix Lords of the Fallen‘s performance on PS5. Still, it’s somewhat disappointing because a game that could have had a near-perfect or perfect rating falls a lot because of its lack of optimization. But, if history has taught us anything, even games with the worst launch can redeem themselves. Of course, many of us hope to be able to play the latest Hexworks title this year and not wait until 2026 to experience it properly.
