Marvel is showing off the cover for the debut issue of Avengers: Twilight. The limited series, from Chip Zdarsky and Daniel Acuna, takes place in a dystopian future where there are no more heroes. However, an older, more grizzled Steve Rogers is still around to avenge the world. In Alex Ross’ main cover for the debut issue, Steve is back in a brand-new Captain America suit. While sticking to the classic theme, this new suit features small changes and additions that show this is a much different world. Plus, he seems to be missing his iconic shield.
Same Captain, New Suit
The debut cover for Avengers: Twilight features Steve Rogers in his new Captain America suit. The Avenger is crouched amid a red, white, and blue stylized background. The focus here is the new suit, which you can see in fine detail. It is like previous incarnations of the suit with a few additions. The most noticeable are the brown kneepads and gloves that the Captain is now wearing. Plus, he is missing his iconic shield.
With Avengers: Twilight taking place in a darker future, it is likely that Steve re-obtaining the shield will be an iconic moment. If he even gets one in this future where heroes are no more.
Avengers: Twilight
Announced during NYCC, Avengers: Twilight is a new take on the Avengers concept. Steve Rogers lives in a world where the Age of Heroes is over. The Avengers are strangers, and everyone Rogers knew is dead. This world has turned its back on heroes, and in the meantime, the world changed. So, Steve must step up and bring the heroes back to the battlefield. However, how can you convince heroes to help save a world that doesn’t want them? Steve will try as he runs into several people with ties to the original Avengers.
The first of six issues of Avengers: Twilight drops on January 17.
