Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones have launched a Kickstarter to fund a new Dracula graphic novel. The planned series will dive into the untold history of the legendary vampire from Bram Stoker’s classic novel. The initial Kickstarter funds the first graphic novel, Dracula Volume 1: The Impaler. This 112-page graphic novel explores Dracula’s time with Satan and how that led him on a path to becoming the Lord of the Undead.

This new graphic novel is the first major collaboration for Wagner and Jones’ new company, Orlok Press. According to the project’s Kickstarter page, the novel is finished and is just awaiting printing. Wagner, known for creating Grendel and Mage, shared that this series is truly a “labor of love” between him and Kelley. Both are huge fans of the literary vampire and the ever-changing ideas and interpretations behind his mythos. However, for their version, the two opted for a sexy, bloody, and monstrous look at Dracula.

Plus, if you think you have read all the stories about Dracula, think again. Wagner and Jones are exploring the untold history of the original vampire. While keeping its roots in the mythos of Stoker’s original tale, the graphic novel expands on the untold moments of Dracula. Wagner is eager for fans to meet the duo’s take on the legendary character and how it works with Stoker’s novel to establish Dracula as the true Lord of the Undead.

There are quite a few tiers that backers can bid on, each earning them a different reward. It begins with a digital tier, allowing the final graphic novel to be downloaded as a digital high-resolution PDF. Next, backers can opt for physical copies of the book. You can nab a hardcover edition with cover art from Jones, or another tier offers a cover from Wagner. Both put the legendary vampire front and center. Then, you get your limited tiers, which offer signed editions of the hardcovers, limited edition art folios, and more.

With 22 days left on the project, the $666 goal has already been met. As of the writing of this article, the Kickstarter had reached over $80,000 pledged.
