FromSoftware is one of the most consistent video game developers in the industry. Its games have received the coveted “Game of the Year” award year after year. FromSoftware is now doubling down and wants to deliver more games in the future. According to the company’s website, FromSoftware is hiring a lot of developers for different roles—these range from Game Planners, Programmers, Character Designers, and many more. As for what they will be working on, the company only said that these positions are for “multiple upcoming projects.” This should come as good news to fans of the Soulsbourne genre, and some might finally have hope for Bloodborne 2.
The “multiple upcoming projects” could mean a few things. The most obvious and likely possibility is many new IPs in the signature punishing FromSoftware style. Because the only games from the company that have gotten sequels are the Dark Souls games and the Armored Core series. Other than that, the company doesn’t really do sequels. But if it does change, it will have to be the aforementioned Bloodborne 2, Sekiro 2, or a sequel to the excellent Elden Ring.
What Does This Mean For The Future Of FromSoftware Games & Fans
Having been around the block a few times, FromSoftware has a lot of past work to pull from as well. Like the recently revived Armored Core 6, the studio could take the same route with games like Ninja Blade, Otogi, or even King’s Field. Anyone who is still waiting for a Tenchu sequel or remake should instead give Sekiro a shot.
The scope, scale, and quality of games like Elden Ring and Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon means that the development cycle for such games is usually very long. This mass hiring spree implies that the turnover time for future FromSoftware games will be a bit shorter as a result. Hopefully, this will not have an impact on the quality of the games.
If you are a fan of Soulsbourne games and are waiting for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, then Lies of P should hold you off for a while. Although it may look like it, it is not a simple Bloodbourne clone and makes enough original changes to have its own unique identity.
