This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Pteranodon is one of the best early taming options in ARK: Survival Ascended. This Dinosaur can fly, allowing you to travel faster and find new locations. In addition, Pteranodon can pick up and carry resources in its paws.

First of all, you should prepare. This dinosaur can fly, which means it will escape from you pretty quickly if you try to attack. Therefore you need to craft Bola:

  • 15 Fiber
  • 3 Hide
  • 3 Stone
  • 10 Thatch

This weapon will allow you to immobilize Pteranodon for a while. Also, prepare a bow and arrows to stun the dinosaur. But you can also use a Slingshot instead of a bow.

After that, you only need the location where these dinosaurs rest. Luckily, they are available almost everywhere, so it won’t take long. When you find a Pteranodon of the appropriate level in ARK: Survival Ascended, use Bola to prevent it from flying away. Then shoot it in the head to stun and catch it. But be careful, as you only need a couple of shots. If you overdo it, you will kill the creature.

How to Tame Pteranodon

Fortunately, the taming method remains the same as in the previous game. In other words, you need to feed Pteranodon different meats or Simple Kibble. Of course, the higher the quality of the meat, the better, but even the regular meat will do.

You will also need a lot of Narcoberries to keep it stunned. Keep feeding it, and you will tame Pteranodon in ARK: Survival Ascended without any problem. But to fly on it, you will also have to craft a Pteranodon Saddle:

  • 75 Chitin
  • 125 Fiber
  • 230 Hide
