****UPDATE: Rockstar tweeted this image 24 hrs after the previous

It has been over six years since Rockstar Games released wild west action adventure game Red Dead Redemption. Earlier today Rockstar tweeted an image that set the gaming communities alight with excitement, speculation and questions; Did Rockstar just confirm Red Dead Redemption 2?

Similar to most Rockstar titles, Red Dead Redemption was an instant hit, lassoing fans in with a premise of GTA like gameplay in the old west. Though not the first to attempt to conquer the Wild West action adventure genre – with games like Gun, Call of Juarez and even Redemptions predecessor, Red Dead Revolver – Red Dead Redemption certainly mastered it by creating endearing characters, a riveting story and enthralling gameplay.

Accompanied by no text, no hashtags, no tags, the the tweets only content was an image of the rockstar logo in black with a red background. While it’s possible the image could be referring to a new IP or something other than the next Red Dead game, red and black are primary Red Dead Redemption colors.

Aside from the color association, the assumption that the teaser is indeed for the long awaited sequel stems from the fact that the repercussions of the image not being a teaser for the next Red Dead would be a PR disaster for Rockstar. Consumers have been considerably angry with dishonest marketing as of late -see No Mans Sky– so publishing an image that heavily implies the long awaited sequel to a fan favorite for the sake of drumming up publicity for something else would not bode well.

The image has only been out since 6 A.M this morning, but has users already speculating the possible release date of the game. My personal hope is that the fine folks over at Rockstar will follow in the footsteps of Bethesda, and release the game within a short time period after announcement.
