Compared to other artifacts in Risk of Rain Returns, Origin requires prerequisites to be met before you can unlock it, which can be a long process. Here, you won’t need to solve puzzles or look for secret passages, but only kill the boss. However, the artifact won’t appear unless you have 9 other artifacts with you, which is where the difficulty comes in.
Risk of Rain Returns: How to Get Artifact of Origin

Your opponent will be Providence, the final boss, who will be waiting for you in the last room of the Contact Light ship. Before you start fighting him, take a look at the items you have with you. Another requirement to get the Artifact of Origin in Risk of Rain Returns is to have 9 more artifacts with you:
- Honor
- Kin
- Distortion
- Spite
- Glass
- Enigma
- Sacrifice
- Command
- Spirit
So, if you don’t have any of them, you’ll need to get them before you fight Providence. Luckily, you can choose any difficulty, so even on Drizzle, the artifact will be available. Be careful because this boss has 4 different phases, each of which is dangerous in its own way. With each phase, he will become more dangerous and his attacks will change. Also, during the battle, he will summon his Gilded Worms minions, so prepare some AoE attacks to kill them faster. In battle, you need to be maneuverable because the enemy attacks constantly and it hurts a lot. To make the battle easier, you can do some preparations. The first thing to start with is special rooms that you can unlock in the boss area using key cards:
- Nano-Chest: Unlocked from the Cabin. Adds one chest with items to the battlefield.
- Surgical Bed: Unlocked from the Med Bay. A Surgical Bed will appear on the battlefield where you can restore HP.
- Gauss Canon: Unlocked from Armory. A powerful cannon will appear on the battlefield, which you can use to damage the boss or Gilded Worms.
In addition to the aids, you will also need to choose a good Survivor. We recommend choosing a Commando or a Loader, as their skills will be the most suitable for this battle.
When you finally defeat Providence in Risk of Rain Returns with the 9 above-mentioned artifacts in your inventory, you will pick up the Artifact of Origin in the same room you are in.
