AAA game design is not a smooth process at the best of times. Schedules can slip due to anything from publisher demands to problems in the beta. Therefore, development time can take longer than expected. Duke Nukem Forever takes the prize as a result of a twelve-year development cycle. Yet Team Ico’s ‘The Last Guardian’ isn’t far off, having gone gold after almost ten years of development.
Fans have waited eagerly for The Last Guardian because of Team Ico’s previous game. Shadow of the Colossus had players wandering a vast desert so they could scale and slay the titanic colossi. Fans have endured the long wait in the hopes of the magic being repeated.

“When a young boy meets a colossal, mysterious creature named Trico, the pair form a deep, unbreakable bond that will help them survive amongst the crumbling ruins and malevolent dangers that surround them.
By working together, the unlikely pair must communicate with one another to overcome tremendous obstacles and uncover the secrets of their beautiful fantasy world – and ultimately survive their touching and emotionally charged journey.”
Furthermore, Guardian’s setting is the same world as that of Shadow of the Colossus. Whether we’ll see anything from Colossus in Guardian is unknown but it looks like gameplay and feeling is similar. Like Colossus, Guardian puts players in a large world with no explanation. Players must find the answers to the game’s many questions as they play. Armored soldiers are hunting him through the ruins; if they catch you it’s instant game over. Yet players can turn the tables by siccing Trico on them.
