Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” music video has received mixed reactions ever since it hit YouTube on Halloween. Over the past few weeks, the singer has received criticism from churchgoers and a Catholic Bishop for filming inside a Brooklyn church. The New York Times also reported that a Catholic priest was relieved of his administrative duties for letting Carpenter use the Brooklyn location for her video. So, what does Carpenter think about the drama? She reacted to the Catholic Church controversy for the first time in a new interview.
Sabrina Carpenter Brushes Off Catholic Church Controversy
While talking to Variety on Nov. 29, Carpenter confirmed that she and her team “got approval in advance” to film her “Feather” music video inside Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Despite all of the drama surrounding her video’s filming location, Carpenter seemingly brushed off the Catholic Church controversy by joking that “Jesus was a carpenter.”
The star’s comments come a month after she dropped her “Feather” music video on YouTube. The controversial video, which Carpenter shared on Oct. 31, begins with her strutting down the streets of New York while wearing a crop top and miniskirt. She’s being followed by three guys before they’re suddenly hit by a truck while trying to cross the street. In another scene, a group of men fight to their deaths as they compete to get Carpenter’s attention. The scene plays out like a horror movie as Carpenter is constantly splattered by their blood.
The horror vibes continue when a guy meets his untimely death in an elevator. Carpenter caused his fatal accident by jamming his tie in between the doors as revenge for taking pictures underneath her dress. After causing all sorts of chaos, Carpenter goes to a church, where she sings her hit track while wearing a short black tulle dress.
I feel so much lighter like a feather with you off my mind.

While Carpenter has received backlash over the nature of her video, she doesn’t appear to be stressing about the Catholic Church controversy.
