This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information.

Routine was originally announced way back in 2012, and now four years later, the developer Lunar Software has finally given us a release date (technically, a release window) for their upcoming game. In the wise words of Portal‘s GLaDOS: “It’s been a long time.”

Routine
Explore the many, creepy hallways of the abandoned moon base in Routine.

Routine was supposed to launch in 2013 and was even on its way to Steam via their Project Greenlight. For the Lunar Software team, however, the game still was not completely ready, and they have been clear that  quality trumps any sort of deadline. Fast forward three years and Lunar was pushing for a late 2016 release of the game. That has become a no-go as well and prompted them to post to their website for the first time since December of last year. In reference to the game being pushed back again, the development team wrote:

We have been working like crazy to try and hit that mark without compromising the quality of the game and at this rate, we would be releasing way too close to the Steam Christmas Sales (which would be devastating for us). In the end we felt like it was best to just not rush things at this final hurdle.

Routine is a first-person, survival horror game (with a serious 80’s vibe going for it), in which you have to explore a moon base that has been abandoned. The hallways are eerily long and quiet, and the horror element is exceptionally clear as you walk through these claustrophobic spaces by alone.

Routine is slated to release in March 2017 and will be available for Mac and PC via Steam. We have waited four years. Four more months should not hurt us. In the meantime, you can watch the new trailer for the game below.
