Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader is a deep game even before you apply the best mods. It was only a matter of time before someone set a CRPG in the 40k universe, and Rogue Trader takes great advantage of it. Owlcat Games delivered a top-notch roleplying experience, but there are always ways you can make it better. The vanilla experience is great, but these are a terrific foundation if you decide to tweak the game. From improving the graphics to unlocking achievements, there’s something here for everyone. Here are the best mods for Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, in no particular order.

5. Allow Modded Achievements

Playing modded games typically disables achievements. The Allow Modded Achievements mod by AlterAsc fixes that, allowing you to tweak the game to your heart’s content while still collecting achievements. Obviously, if you’re using heavy cheats, getting certain achievements still won’t mean much. If you just want to tweak a couple of things, use a reshader, and maybe toss in some portraits, however, there’s no reason you shouldn’t earn achievements.

4. Characteristics and Skills Check Assistant

The Characteristics and Skills Check Assistant mod by AlterAsc allows “taking” during checks. Taking is the act of rolling a preset value rather than relying upon the gods of RNG. This mod is mostly useful when you don’t want to waste time rolling for something your character is guaranteed to succeed at anyway based on their skills. With this system you can still gamble on difficult roles and experience all the highs and lows that come with it. Though complicated on paper, it’s a simple mod in practice, and one of the best for Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader.

3. Rogues Delight – Immersive Graphics Reshade

The Rogues Delight mod is a clean and simple reshade enhancing the game’s visuals without overpowering them. Wheras some reshaders aim to change a game’s overall aesthetic or mood, Rogues Delight keeps things close to the vanilla experience. If you want to enhance Rogue Trader while honoring its classic 40k look, this is one of the best Warhammer 40k mods. Light, shadows, and colors just feel better with it, whether you’re looking at character models or the world around them.

2. Generic Portraits Project

Rogue Trader features a deep character customization system, but it is notably lacking in one area: character portraits. Fortunately, Owlcat Games accounted for that and allows players to upload their own. If you don’t happen to have a folder full of 40k imagery sitting around, the Generic Portraits Project is a fantastic mod. It doesn’t get much simpler than this one, adding 183 AI generated portraits to the game. Now, matching your next character’s design will be easier than ever.

1. Toy Box

If you want to enhance your Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader experience with a single mod, Toy Box is one of the best you can ask for. Getting 500+ cheats, tweaks, and quality of life improvements from a single mod is fantastic. Whether you want to edit the party composition and stats, or add Feats and Items to your character, Toy Box can probably deliver. Toy Box supplies a ton of value in a single package, which is a big part of the attraction.
