DC has revealed that next year’s Ape-ril Special #1 will feature several variant covers. One such cover will be Banana Scented. That’s right, now you can enjoy the fruity smell of a banana as you dive into the adventures of an all-ape Justice, I mean Jungle, League. This smelly variant cover comes from artist Hayden Sherman. Even more, the issue and all its smelly variants will release just in time to celebrate April Fools’ Day.

DC’s Ape-ril Special #1 will feature 48-pages of orangutan fun. The special includes stories from John Layman, Joshua Hale Fialkov, and Gene Yang. These writers are joined by artists Karl Mostert, Phil Hester, and Bernard Chang for the ape-tastic comic. Meanwhile, Dan Mora is handling the issue’s main cover with Bernard Chang adding a variant and Hayden Sherman going bananas with the scented variant.

According to DC, the Ape-ril Special #1 follows the recent capture of Gorilla Grodd in the pages of The Flash. This has left a void that Monsieur Mallah is aiming to fill. The villain assembles a group of other evil-doing simians to from DC’s Legion of D(oo-oo-ah-ah)m. Together, these malignant monkeys aim to take over the world. However, where there is an all-monkey Legion of Doom there will be an all-monkey Justice League to stop them. However, will these super-simians be a match for Mallah’s monkeys?

Alongside the Banana Scented variant, the other covers for Ape-ril Special #1 lean into the fun and comedy of the monkey mayhem. One such variant places the Justice League and Legion of Doom of apes in a parody of the classic Crisis on Infinite Earth’s #7. It features heroes such as Beppo the Super-Monkey, Detective Chimp, Sam Simeon, Gleek, and the legendary Monkey Prince.

DC’s Ape-ril Special #1 will release on 3/19, just in time for April Fools’ Day.
