The McTony Robbery in GTA Online is one of the heists added after the Chop Shop update. If you didn’t know, these robberies task players with stealing high-end vehicles to then sell them. Like every other over-the-top activity in this crime-riddled town, The McTony Robbery will see you diving deep and infiltrating a submarine. Yes, you read that right. The vehicle is underwater, and it’s up to the player-created character who has a death wish to steal it, fight many mercenaries, and return it to their small Scrap Yard.
GTA Online Chop Shop Update: The McTony Robbery Walkthrough
Chances are you’ll see The McTony Robbery as one of the weekly heists of the Scrap Yard in GTA Online. While infiltrating a submarine might seem daunting, this is one of the shortest and most fun robberies we’ve done. And, as always, you’ll get a few prep missions you can do alone or with others. We recommend the latter because wetwork in Los Santos gets hectic.
Scoping the Submarine
As in previous robberies, you need to scope the place where the heist will take place. In this case, though, you have to scope a submarine, which is where the car is. Once you take the mission, you’ll have to head to the location and photograph three things: the Landing Pad Exit, which is on top of the submarine; the schematics, which are on a desk outside of the submarine; and the sonar jammer, which is on top of some crates outside of the submarine.
Stealing the Submersible
To enter the submarine, you must pose as a security guard and enter through the moonpool via a submersible. To steal it, you must head to one of the docks on the map that the game will send you to and cause some chaos. When you arrive, defeat the guards. After wiping the area with these underpaid mercenaries, climb the tower and activate the release switch. Doing so will release the submersible and allow you to grab it. You must then take it to the specified location and leave it there. In our case, the location was close to the dock, so it took less than a minute to arrive.
Acquiring the Sonar Equipment
Since you’ll need to find the submarine during The McTony Robbery in the GTA Online Chop Shop update, you must acquire sonar equipment. To do this, you need to head to a warehouse and break into it. Once inside, defeat the enemies and use the crowbar to open crates until you find the objective. After acquiring it, bring it back to the Scrap Yard.
Destroy Weapon Shipments (Optional)
This is an optional mission, but we recommend you take it because fighting inside a submarine is hectic, and higher-tier weapons on enemies will one-shot you. To sabotage the guards, you must head to a lockup and destroy the first shipment. After that, you need to download the location of the remaining shipments from the laptop. Once you have them, head to them and destroy them. We found all of them in vehicles, and since we drove worse than a player escaping from a blue shell, we didn’t destroy them all. We hope you have better luck. The easiest way to tackle this mission is by bringing more players and splitting up.
Getting Disguises
This is one of the missions you can start from the map. We got it next to a pier, and the only task is to search the area until you find the disguises. Once you find them, take them to your property.
Obtaining a Cutting Torch
Last but not least, you need a cutting torch to open many of the doors inside the submarine. The game sent us to a construction site where we had to look around the area until we spotted the equipment. Two enemies will appear and try to beat you. Personally, we left them live, but it’s up to you if you want to increase that body count.
The McTony Robbery Finale
Now that every prep mission is done, it’s time to dive. You have to start this mission from the Scrap Yard, and once it begins, it’ll send you to a dock to grab the submersible.
There won’t be enemies when you arrive, so just jump inside the underwater vehicle and dive. After a while, Jamal will tell you to enable the sonar equipment, which will change the map a bit and show you the submarine’s location. All you must do is head toward it and board it from below.
When inside the submarine, you must open some sealed doors with the cutting torch. During this time, enemies won’t attack you, but that changes quickly.
The next objective is to disable the navigation system by shooting at several consoles. As soon as you start shooting, enemies will attack you. There are four consoles you must destroy.
After that, you need to locate the head of security. This enemy has the codes to move the submarine. Sadly, you’ll need to look every nook and cranny of this place, and since it is a tight space, you might die more than once. Bring a shotgun, and hope you find this foe soon. The head of security has a boss health bar, so you need to shoot them constantly until you defeat them.
Once you obtain the codes, head to the bridge and input them. The player with the codes is the one that has to fulfill this step, so stay on guard for any stragglers that arrive.
In what is one of our favorite scenes, you’ll have to crash the submarine at the shore, which is how you’ll escape with the vehicle. Since the navigation system is gone, just floor it until you crash.
Finally, you need to open the landing pad, which is far behind the room with the vehicle. There’s an enemy inside, so aim with your weapon before entering. Once you open the pad, get in the vehicle and escape. You’ll get a four-star wanted level, so you better have a good escape route.
Selling the Vehicle
As always, it is up to you if you want to sell the car for its full price or scrap it; we recommend the former. Depending on how close your property is to the terminal, you can deliver it in under two minutes. Once that’s done, you can say farewell to The McTony Robbery in GTA Online.
This has been one of our favorite robberies in the game. It is short, dynamic, and extremely fun. You can do everything in under an hour and probably a bit faster with some help. Hopefully, we’ll see this often in the weekly reset because we don’t mind a bit of underwater action occasionally.
