The “Investigate Wildspire Waste” Investigation in MHW is your first step towards High Rank, where the weapons are sturdy and the monsters are deadly. But, similar to other Investigation/Expedition quests, the game is often a little cryptic with its instructions. You know you have to locate and hunt a monster or look for tracks, but where should you start? Well, you don’t have to comb through all of Wildspire’s grains of sand to complete this Investigation because the answer is close to the Camp.
MHW: What You Need to Do to Complete “Investigate Wildspire Waste” Investigation
The MHW “Investigate Wildspire Waste” Investigation can be completed by collecting High Rank ??? Rathian track and defeating a Pukei-Pukei. In High Rank, often, both Rathian and Pukei-Pukei are found around Areas 2, 3, and 6, so head there and start looking for their tracks! Aside from footprints and scales, Rathian likes to leave gashes and scratch marks on rocks, meanwhile, toxic mucus can be left behind by Pukei-Pukei.
If you’re heading towards the proper location, The Handler will point out the Rathian trails for you. After locating one ??? Rathian track, you also have to hunt a High Rank Pukei-Pukei to complete “Investigate Wildspire Waste”. While the googly-eyed warbler is considered a lower-tier monster, it hits harder in High Rank and has 1-2 new tricks up its sleeve.
Like in Low Rank, Pukei-Pukei is weak to Thunder Element weapons and can be easily inflicted by Paralysis or Sleep. Bringing along Thunder Element, Tobi-Kadachi, or Great Girros tree is the best way to deal with the overgrown poisonous fowl. Make sure you cut off its tail for bonus carve materials and disable its tail attacks.
If you are having trouble with the “Investigate Wildspire Waste” Investigation, you can turn this into an Assigned Quest and run it with friends. Simply select the “Return from Investigation” option by pressing the Start button on consoles or Escape Key on PC and selecting the “Quest” tab. Open the “Assigned Quest” menu once you’re back at Astera and you should see that “★6 Invader in the Waste” Quest will appear there.
At that point, you can post the quest and tackle it with other Hunters who are standing by in your Lobby or through SOS. Don’t pick “Abandon Quest” though, because it will reset your progress to before you take on the quest instead.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
