To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, IDW Publishing is renewing its contract with Paramount, the folks behind Mutant Mayhem. The publishing giant has been releasing TMNT comics since 2011. Under the new agreement, IDW will continue to release all future heroes in half-shell comics. This includes the current ongoing series from Sophie Campbell and Gavin Smith. It also includes several new titles and series that will mark the franchise’s 40th anniversary this year.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Renewal
Since 2011, IDW Publishing has been producing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. This includes collecting classic material from the franchises’ co-creators, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Plus, the current reboot, the longest-running TMNT title, will reach its milestone 150th issue later this year. Lourdes Arocho, the SVP of licensing $ publishing for consumer products at Paramount, shared their excitement for the renewal. They revealed that even after 40 years, “there are still so many stories to be told” within the TMNT universe.
Equally excited is IDW Co-Publisher Mark Doyle, who talked about how iconic the Turtles are. They shared that they are an integral part of the “tapestry of comic book history;” it is an honor to continue that legacy, especially during such a milestone year as when the franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary. Doyle also revealed that the folks at IDW have built an “incredible publishing plan” that will excite readers new and old.
An Exciting 2024
The half-shelled heroes are already coming off a great year. The feature film Mutant Mayhem garnered great acclaim and earned over $180 million. Now, IDW and Paramount are hoping to keep that momentum going. This coming year will see the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution. This is a sequel to the wildly popular Last Ronin story centered on the last surviving Turtle. Plus, the ongoing TMNT series will release its milestone 150th issue and will conclude Campbell’s run on the title.
