The rumor mill had been building lately about a new entry in theย Marvel vs Capcomย series, and the PlayStation Experience event did not disappoint. Saturday introduced a trailer for the upcomingย Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and the Capcom Unity blog, as usual, quickly had some more details to follow up.

The trailer shows us the first four playable characters, as well as indicating a change for the series that has not been seen sinceย the firstย Marvel vs Capcom game. From the Marvel side, players will be able to choose Iron Man (Tony Stark) and Captain Marvel (in her current form, Carol Danvers). From the Capcom side, Ryu (Street Fighter) and Mega Man X will join the fray.
More importantly, the trailer reveals some gameplay details that will alter the formula many are used to. Matches inย MvC:I will be two against two, as opposed to the three against three that had become the series norm over the last few entries. And new to the series will be the addition of the six Infinity Stones, powerful McGuffins in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will lead to the huge crossover event in 2018. The Infinity Stones will “…influence the outcome of the battle. Each Infinity Stone will customize characters with unique abilities and powerful game-changing effects that can quickly turn the tide of battle.” This sounds suspiciously close to the awful “gem system” fromย Street Fighter X Tekken, so hopefully Capcom will have more information on that soon.
In another first,ย Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will be coming to PC as well as PlayStation 4. No word on crossplay, but it seems likely, considering how that helpedย Street Fighter V through its rocky start. Also no word on an
