Get ready to feel like a kid again. On Thursday, Jan. 18, Deadline reported Wizards of Waverly Place is getting a sequel. The hit children’s TV series, which ran for four seasons from October 2007 to January 2012, has been confirmed to return as a pilot episode. It’ll be executive-produced by Selena Gomez and David Henrie. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the stars will appear in the revival as on-screen siblings Alex and Justin Russo.
Selena Gomez and David Henrie Set to Reunite In “Wizards of Waverly Place” Sequel Pilot
According to Deadline, Gomez will return as Alex Russo in the pilot. While it’s unclear if she’ll make more appearances later in the revival, it’s confirmed Henrie will be a series regular. The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel is said to revolve around Justin Russo taking a “powerful young wizard” under his wing. His apprentice, named Billie, will be played by Janice LeAnn Brown, who is set to star as the series’ lead.
The pair meet when Billie shows up to Justin’s door asking him for help with wizard training. Up until that point, Justin has been living a “normal, human life” with his wife and two sons after giving up his wizard powers. However, after meeting Billie, Justin realizes he “must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
Following reports of the revival, both Gomez and Henrie confirmed the news on Instagram. The Only Murders in the Building actress reposted the Deadline article on her Story and wrote that she was “so excited” for the pilot.
She also shared a throwback picture of her and Henrie as their Wizards characters alongside the caption:
