The Marvel 2099 universe is expanding in this week’s Miguel O’Hara: Spider-Man 2099. When the titular wall-crawler infiltrates Cobalt Chemical, he finds an odd but effective choice in security: a werewolf. Luckily, this universe’s version of the Werewolf by Night is not eager to face-off against Spider-Man. In fact, the two end up teaming up in what is becoming a pattern for the Marvel limited series. It looks like Miguel O’Hara is making a name for himself in the 2099 universe as the resident monster-tamer.
Marvel 2099 And The Werewolf By Night
Marvel’s original Werewolf by Night was a man named Jacob “Jack” Russell. Born in Transylvania, Russell’s family is cursed with lycanthropy or the ability to shift into a werewolf. After becoming a full-fledged werewolf, dubbed the Werewolf by Night, Jack spent his time exacting revenge on those who wronged his family. He also researched his unusual family legacy and spent his days hunting down other monsters in the Marvel Universe.
Now, Marvel 2099 is introducing its own version of the wolf. The Werewolf of Night of 2099 comes in the form of Creighton Russoff. Russoff is a man suffering the lycanthrope curse. Since transforming, he has been blackmailed and used by Cobalt Chemical. The evil company poisoned the wolf with silver and use the promise of the cure to get him to do their bidding. However, Russoff’s run-in with Marvel 2099’s Spider-Man shows that he is not truly evil.
Spider-Man: Monster Magnet?
O’Hara’s run-in with the Werewolf by Night is not the first Marvel 2099 monster he has faced. The Miguel O’Hara: Spider-Man 2099 limited series kicked off with a Spider-Man and Blade team-up. The half-zombie Blade of the Marvel 2099 universe helped O’Hara take on a new breed of Marvel zombies. Then, in the second issue, Dracula made an appearance. Coming up, the fourth issue of the series promises to show Marvel 2099’s version of Terror Inc.
Miguel O’Hara: Spider-Man 2099 #3 is on sale now.
