Nintendo has stated in a blog post that the incoming Dragon Quest XI from Square Enix will also arrive on the Switch console. The page is in Japanese and mostly just gives a recap of the Jump Festa 2017 coverage. At the bottom of the post, however, is a sentence state plans for the aforesaid Switch version are in the works. Dragon Quest XI’s teaser site, however, does not list the console. It’s possible that the line on Nintendo’s site will be covered in more detail during the company’s Switch presentation in January.

Square Enix revealed more information about Dragon Quest XI at Jump Festa 2017 last week, including some of the world, horseback riding, exploring a town, and some of the allies the hero will team up with. Chief among said allies was the thief known as Camus. Also shown – all unnamed as of yet – were a female martial artist, a short elderly man, and two other blonde women. The PS4 and 3DS versions will each have their own exclusive mechanics, with the 3DS having the option to switch between 3D and 2D old-school graphic styles.

The Dragon Quest series has seen a resurgence of popularity in the west recently, after a seemingly dubious period where its future here was uncertain. Fans all but screamed for continued localization and were finally rewarded with DQ VII and VIII for 3DS, the former of which is already released and enjoyed overwhelming fan support. Dragon Quest XI’s Switch version was first prophesied during an interview with producer Junichi Masuda, in which such was suggested. While the reliability of both sources could be questionable – the interview due to the fact that Masuda never actually mentioned it himself and the blog post being nearly indecipherable – at this point, it seems more likely that the Switch will include the game in its library.

Whatever the case, you’d better believe The Nerd Stash will have it covered when the time comes! In the meantime, leave a comment and tell us which version of the game you’ll be getting once it releases (in the west, that is).
