Rockstar Games Failed To Shift Gears With Its New Drag Races in GTA Online

A not so straight road ahead.

With the announcement of GTA 6, many players thought Rockstar Games would start abandoning GTA Online; that wasn’t the case. These past weeks, we’ve received some big updates, such as the new Salvage Yard, which brought new short and profitable robberies to the game. Another minor one that many were looking for was the addition of Drag Races in GTA Online. Well, in true Rockstar Games fashion, the developers have dropped the ball once more and angered several members of the community with the designs and payout rates of these jobs. But don’t worry, if history has taught us anything, the team behind this game will fix everything in a few months…or years.

GTA Online Drag Races Suffer From Low Payouts and Bad Design

Does Rockstar know what a Drag Race is? It's not a 2 to 3 mile race with turns.

We’re not racing-savvy people, but at least we know the fundamentals of Drag Races that seem to be missing from GTA Online. To our knowledge, you need a short straight distance, at least two racers, and no traffic. Well, Rockstar Games did the opposite. Furthermore, while some players might like the game mode because it is new and breaks the racing mold in some ways with new mechanics, the car selection is atrocious, and let’s not even talk about the payouts. Even with bonuses, winning a race will net you less than $10,000.00, which you can make much faster by doing any of the many activities in the game.

So, as always, we believe Rockstar Games just wanted to throw a bone at us to wait for the next big update, which will likely arrive in Summer 2024. It is quite sad to see this game mode flop so hard because Drag Races in GTA Online could’ve been a great opportunity. Heck, we’ve even played in public sessions sometimes, and we’ve seen better car meets and Drag Races being organized by players without the need for a dedicated game mode. Still, here’s hoping the developers eventually listen to the community and at least bump the payout of this activity.
